My winemaking journey led me to Devitt Winery's doorstep some three harvests ago... I have always been fascinated with wine and every facet of the process so in 2007, I enrolled in the VESTA Program at Missouri State-West Plains where I studied Enology and completed their five year program in 2012. In the process I worked as a Cellar Rat at several wineries in Bay Area where at Rock Wall Winery I had the great pleasure of meeting Matt Smith and Shauna Rosenblum, two world class winemakers that played an important roll in my journey... during that time, I manage a 125 acre vineyard in the Uco Valley in Argentina from 2006 - 2019... In 2018 I was finally able to escape the Bay Area and move to Jacksonville, Oregon. Late that year I was offered a fair price for the Uco Valley vineyard and retired... well kind of... not long after that... my wife Joan, who is fond of saying “Things happen for a reason.” was amazed when I returned home from fishing the Applegate River one afternoon and told her that I finally stopped in to talk with the owner of Devitt Winery... "Well??? tell me all about it... what did you talk about?" she asked...
"I start tomorrow" I said...
